The Savings
When we practice good waste management, we all save in many ways. A few of them are listed below.
Environment
Reducing our impact on the environment is the traditional savings that most of us think of. By reducing waste we can also:
- Reduce emissions from combustion (exhaust, green house gases).
- Make more efficient use of resources (trees, ores, oil, hydro, etc.).
- Reduce the amount of chemical and solid waste entering our environment, water and food chain.
Money
The economic impact of good waste management can be very positive:- More efficient use of raw materials, supplies, manpower, energy and water will save money. Remember: everything that ends up as waste and costs money for disposal was also paid for when it entered your facility . . . . so, waste reduction not only saves on disposal costs, but also saves on the purchasing side as well.
- Landfill costs. On our local scene landfill tip fees are $99.00 per tonne. Most recyclable materials can be handled at much less than landfill rates and will save disposal dollars.
- The cost of rolloff and dumpster garbage disposal and/or bag tags all quickly add up. If you can reduce the number of times your garbage dumpster needs to be emptied, by reducing your waste and recycling what you can't reduce, you will save money on disposal costs.

- The ISO 14000 Environmental Standards are rapidly being accepted world wide and many governments and companies in the foreseeable future will only do business with companies so registered. (For information on ISO 14000 give us a call at the Quinte Waste Solutions office.)
