Nothing But a Blue Box!

Our recycling truck drivers make over 1000 stops each weekday. That's a lot of blue boxes to collect recyclables from! One of the problems our drivers run into is recyclables being put out to the roadside in containers other than a blue box. The blue box is specially designed to clip onto the side of the truck, leaving the drivers' hands free to do the necessary sorting.

Laundry hampers, cardboard boxes and plastic bags are commonly used by Quinte residents as blue box alternatives. Laundry hampers simply do not do the job of a blue box. The driver is forced to sort with one hand only - slowing down the route significantly , and cardboard boxes will fall apart if the bottom gets wet. If you must use a bag for your recycling use a clear plastic bag and only place one product per bag such as only water bottles in one bag, only aluminum cans in one bag and so on.

So do yourself and the driver a favour - get a proper blue box no higher then 18".
